The 32nd Poiema poetry collection is The Book of Bearings by Diane Glancy. Published February 27, 2019
Diane Glancy is a Cherokee poet who has received such awards as a Minnesota Book Award, an American Book Award, the Pablo Neruda Prize for Poetry, and an Oklahoma Book Award. Her new collection, The Book of Bearings, takes on the confusion and conflict implicit in the collision of cultures that happened when Europeans began settling in North America.
“Late in this book, in a letter to an absent friend, Diane Glancy writes, ‘May your words continue to travel.’ I had the same thought about her own words. I’d like to scatter pages from this book the way the sower in the parable scattered seed.”
